World Exploration: South Korea

Day 6

The next morning we caught a flight out of Incheon and into Tokyo. From there, it was a ten hour flight to America. North West Airlines treated us very well -- no delays, good staff, lots of food, and plentiful video entertainment. Still, I felt like I must be suicidal or insane or both as I watched our plane set out for a 5,000+ mile trip over a practically bottomless, ice cold ocean. In a giant metal object that weighs tons. And just kinda coasts through the air. Held aloft because, 300 years ago, some guy named Bernoulli noticed that when air flows over something it's pressure changes. Madness!

I had never noticed it before, but Chico smells like agriculture, dirt, and pollen. I far prefer that to squid!

The first meal Lauren and I shared back in America was a normal sized steak burrito and steak nachos with everything from El Patron. It tasted so damn good. In Korea, beef is rare and expensive. We're talking $17 for a pound of ground beef. And Mexican food is nonexistant. No chips, no salsa, and certainly no tortillas or refried beans. Heck, the convenience stores didn't even have frozen burritos! It's like the place had never heard of Mexico.

With everything said and done, South Korea cost me a lot less than I had anticipated, and I walked out of the country with a couple of way cool hats and some nice shoes. I had a grand time with Lauren and we're already looking forward to our next bout of world exploration!

I hope you enjoyed the photos. Lauren and I took nearly 1,250 of them, and I've got 73 on my site here. If you want to see them in higher resolutions and quality, you can check out Lauren's Picasa Album.

Lauren has written a series of travel articles over at Food For Thought. You can read about our trip from another point of view!
